I was writing an e-mail to a friend to let her know how much she means to me. The theme in my mind as I began to write was about 'friendship'. I have been thinking of what it means to be a true friend for years. Seems as though it all became clear in this letter...
If there was a photo beside the word 'friend' in the dictionary, a picture of you would be beside it.
You are for sure one of my favourite models of what it means to be a 'true friend'.
I have thought of the meaning of 'friend' for years. Have always been hoping to write a poem about it but I never really had a clear picture in my mind of what a 'true friend' is.
I have come to be aware that a true friend is someone who you feel loves and cares about you as you do about them.
You both put in the effort to 'grow' the friendship into the most magnificent flower.
You discover that true friendship is all about having experiences together.
Working on a project together.
Perhaps meeting the other members of a friend's family, meeting their friends.
Of course being there for a friend WHENEVER they need someone for whatever reason.
A friend is someone who lets you know if they feel you are making a 'mistake' in life.
A friend is someone who encourages you to make healthy choices while letting go of all that does not serve.
Going through life with true friends is more like sailing on the ocean as opposed to kayaking alone in some pond, mostly a pond of the introverted mind that forms in those who may not even have one true friend.
A true friend is truly the best medicine in life.
A true friend wants to really get to know you and you them.
Thank you for being such an incredible friend and role model of an amazing human being.
Yes, you seem to fill all the 'categories' of what it means to be a 'true friend'.
Your parents must be so proud of you ~ to know that they raised a woman of such integrity, beauty, love, caring, passion, inspiration and so much more.
Your picture would also be beside the word 'success' because someone is truly successful when they help others to succeed in any way they can.
I think we should write a book and call it 'Friendship' or perhaps it should be a movie.
